Guidelines for Special Transport and Special Provisions for Journeys of Harzer Schmalspurbahnen GmbH (HSB)

Definition of special transports

Special transports are services provided by the HSB in addition to timetabled regular train transport. They are therefore subject to a separate quote given to the customer. A general distinction is made in special transports between HSB special trains and chartered transports.

Definition of HSB special trains

These are a special service and are subject to a special status. These special trains are determined by the HSB according to its programme and are only offered by the HSB. They are announced accordingly both in the HSB’s own media (e.g. flyers, online) and via external media (e.g. advertisements, radio adverts). A distinction is made here between HSB traditional trains and themed special trains. Different cancellation conditions apply for each of these.

Definition of chartered transports

Chartered transports include the rental of entire passenger trains or of individual vehicles, as required by the customer. The customers in question shall receive a quote from the HSB, which they can accept after inspection and consultation.

Cancellation conditions

Cancellation of HSB traditional trains

For bookings on HSB traditional trains, the following cancellation fees are charged in the case of cancellations:

At least 14 days before the day of travel:

No cancellation fees

13 to one day before the day of travel:

75% of the agreed price

On day of travel:

100% of the agreed price

Cancellations on HSB themed special trains

In general, it is not possible to cancel, return or exchange tickets which have already been purchased (fixed bookings) without charge – not even in partial quantities.

This provision does not apply to deliveries which are clearly incorrect; the HSB must be informed of this in writing immediately upon receipt of the tickets. In this case, the HSM will deliver replacements free of charge as soon as the previously delivered tickets have been returned. We recommend taking out travel cancellation insurance.

The purchase of tickets in our steam shop is not a distance contract under § 312 b BGB. This means that there is no two-week right of cancellation or return for these tickets.

Cancellation of chartered transports

For chartered transports, the following cancellation fees are charged in the case of cancellations:

At least 14 days before the day of travel:

No cancellation fees

13 to one day before the day of travel:

75% of the agreed price

On day of travel:

100% of the agreed price

The cancellation rules may differ in exceptional cases. This will be provided for contractually in advance in each individual case.

Alterations to chartered transports

If the customer requests significant changes in the last two weeks before the day of the transport, a processing fee of 10% of the agreed ticket price is charged. In this context, significant changes to the chartered transport order are changes to the travel date, vehicles, route or times.
