The history of the Selketal Railway

The Selketal Railway is the romantic section of the narrow-gauge railway and has long since been a well-kept secret among nature lovers. The landscape along the 60,9 km route between Quedlinburg, Gernrode, Harzgerode, Hasselfelde and Eisfelder Talmühle is extremely rich in plants and romantic.

Selketalbahn

The railway wends its way through tight bends and natural landscape along lines which, at times, create a feeling of adventure. Steep rock faces emerge suddenly on either side of the track, covered in blooming meadows, picturesque ponds with expansive, lonely forests of beech and oak trees. It takes about 2½ hours to get from Quedlinburg to Eisfelder Talmühle. Short trips by train to Harzgerode or Hasselfelde enable the visitor to sample the charm of typical Harz towns.

The trip through the terminal loop in Stiege is also well worth mentioning. It is the smallest railway terminal loop in Europe. You don't have to be a fan of narrow-gauge railways to enjoy a trip on the Selketal Railway.
